Problem

When it comes to taking care of pets, users need a way to search for products easily, be informed of what they are intending to purchase for their pet, and know that the pet store they’re visiting can cater to all of their pet needs.

Solution

By reorganizing the site’s information architecture and designing a simple and intuitive product discovery experience, users will be able to confidently find what they need to care for their pets and efficiently purchase products in-stores or utilize pet services.

About the Client

Pet Food Express is a local San Francisco Bay Area business, with a couple of locations in Southern California. They are known for providing quality products for pets including their self-service pet wash. They have a history of supporting the communities that they are part of and only carry products that the owners, Michael and Mark, will 100% stand behind.

Currently, their website is mostly a source of resources and they are slowly expanding their business presence online - starting with the San Francisco market. Their mobile website is different from their desktop website, causing confusion for users.

*I am not affiliated with Pet Food Express in any way. This was a concept project to improve their current mobile website.

Primary areas that needed improvement:

• Scannability and layout of various pages

• Product finder experience

Pages were text heavy, had poor visual hierarch, and low scannability and readability

SUMMARY

Reflections

This project really allowed me to take a resource heavy site and get it prepared to be an e-commerce site as Pet Food Express continues to expand.

I also had a chance to really dive into Sketch and expand my abilities with this tool - including creating libraries for my partner and I to utilize and keep consistency.

Next Steps

• Conduct usability test with the redesign to determine what iterations still need to be made

• Transfer the mobile website design onto the desktop

• Implement a section on the product page detailing why Mark and Michael has chosen that specific brand to be available in their stores
